Extended Services
Knowle Primary Academy provides a range of services and activities outside of the normal school day to help meet the needs of their children as well as their parents, families and local community. These include clubs, activities, classes and support for learning.
Breakfast Buddies

Breakfast Buddies opens at 7.30am in the Junior Hall each morning and runs until the start of the school day. Children can arrive at any time from 7.30am. Breakfast is served between 7:30am - 8:20am.
Our Breakfast Club Leader, Mrs Watson, is ably assisted by a team of Play Leaders who ensure that the children are provided with a healthy breakfast and engaged in a variety of fun activities until it is time for school.
Children can help themselves to a selection of cereal and fruit. Hot options include toast, bagels and crumpets. Juice and water are also provided. Our youngest children will receive all the support they need to ensure that they eat a healthy, nutritious breakfast.
Once breakfast has finished, the children are encouraged to participate in a range of age-appropriate planned and free-choice activities.
At the end of Breakfast Buddies, children are escorted through school to their classrooms prior to the main school gates opening.
Jo Jingles
Jo Jingles takes place on a Tuesday afternoon and is run by Lucy, who has been providing similar classes throughout the Solihull area since January 2007.
Jo Jingles provides hands–on musical experience using percussion instruments. Each week there is a fun, educational theme i.e. colours, shapes, numbers using well-known nursery rhymes and action songs. There is a wide range of exciting themes, props, visuals and instruments introduced throughout the sessions to aid the children’s understanding and learning of the theme.
Leapfrog Sports
Leap Frog Sports will be run on a Thursday afternoon by Amanda Barrett who is a High Performance Coach and Rhythmic Gymnastics Coach/Judge.
Leapfrog Sports classes are centred on children having fun and developing their personal and social skills. It provides a way for pre-school children to be active and start to get involved with sport from an early age, which will help them on the first steps to achieving a lifelong love of sport and all the benefits that being active can bring.
Both Jo Jingles and Leapfrog Sports classes are 30 minutes in length and will run within afternoon nursery sessions at an extra cost.
Afternoon Nursery/Nursery PLUS
Afternoon Nursery
Age Range 3-4
Opening Hours 11.45am – 2:45pm
Staffing Ratio 1:10
We are delighted to offer additional afternoon childcare for those children who secure a place at Knowle CE Primary Academy Nursery.
Our sessions are led by the schools' EYFS/KS1 Phase Leader, Mrs Cadden, and her team of Early Years Practitioners. The session offers learning and development opportunities which are focussed on the needs and interests of individual children whilst taking into account the length of the learning day and the prior experiences of morning nursery. The team plan and deliver an exciting range of activities interspersed with opportunities to rest and recuperate from all the fun which can be very exhausting when you are only 3 years old!
For those children attending our afternoon Nursery session, collection time from Crabmill Close entrance is at 2:45pm.
Lunch
For all children who are staying for the afternoon nursery sessions, we are able to provide a hot lunch at an additional cost, as we appreciate that many parents prefer to purchase food provided on site by our catering team. There is now an option for parents to provide a packed lunch. However, the DfE guidance states that 'it does not encourage parents to opt out.' We feel that lunches are a very sociable time, and we usually find that children are keen to try foods they may not try at home as their friends/peers are doing so. Also, it gives us the opportunity to develop children’s independence when eating, learning how to use a knife and fork.
Afternoon Nursery PLUS
Age Range 3-4
Opening Hours 2:45pm – 3:10pm

For those parents who require childcare to coincide with the end of the school day, we offer an additional 25-minute session called Afternoon Nursery PLUS at the end of the day from 2.45pm to 3.10pm at an additional cost.
For those attending Nursery PLUS, provision will focus on class-based projects, planned and delivered by the class teacher. All children will have an opportunity to participate in the planning, preparation and implementation stages of the projects. These will run on a half-termly basis. Each project will conclude with a presentation.

Staffing Ratio 1:8 as a minimum. All staff are suitably qualified and experienced.
Under the direction of Miss Griffiths, our Childcare and Extended Schools Manager and Senior Play Leaders, our team of staff will provide all children with the opportunity to play and socialise with friends in a comfortable, happy and secure environment. There will be a range of activities on offer appropriate to the age of the children, such as competitions, arts and craft, cooking, board games, organised outdoor activities, homework clubs and a choice of child-led activities. We will continue to develop the range of resources on offer, so that they mirror the needs and interests of the children who attend. Our aim is to make after school an exciting time which provides enriching opportunities whilst further developing and supporting the acquisition of key skills.
Subject to numbers, the children will generally be split into Under 8’s and Over 8’s. They will be provided with a biscuit/fruit and a drink when they arrive. At around 5pm all the children who are booked in until 6pm will join together and enjoy a light snack to see them through until home time.
