Spirituality

At Knowle CE Primary Academy, our Christian vision is ‘Growing in God’s Love; Flourishing Together’.  We provide a nurturing environment for all children and adults to grow in mind, body and spirit, enabling everyone to fulfil their potential. Individuals are celebrated for their unique gifts and flourish together through living out our school values, as we make a positive impact on each other, our local community and the wider world. As a result, children are well-prepared for a future in which they will bear lasting fruit and make the world a better place.

We believe that spirituality is the core thread that runs through our school and we attach great importance to this for nurturing holistic development, building a sense of belonging and fostering a sense of purpose. It is challenging to define what spirituality actually is because it is a very personal experience. Spirituality is not tied to religion or faith; people of faith and people of no faith can be deeply spiritual. At Knowle, we have recognised spirituality as the following:

Spirituality is about understanding our relationship with ourselves, others, the world around us and with God (or transcendence). We cannot see spirituality – it is a feeling we have inside all of us, a feeling of a connection to something greater than ourselves, a feeling of awe and wonder or a search for meaning and purpose.

The language we use to define spirituality is not child-friendly, so when talking to children about this concept we simply refer to:

* Me

* Others

* World and Beauty

* Beyond/God

As part of launching our new Christian Vision, all staff and School governors attended a spirituality workshop. Here, we identified key aspects of spirituality across our curriculum and the wider opportunities for nurturing spiritual development. This exercise was then completed with each class of children. Below, you will see where we believe spirituality is alive in our school.
